Mutual Aid Committee

The Mutual Aid Committee (MAC) was formed in August 2025 to build solidarity-based support rooted in the principle of solidarity, not charity. We understand mutual aid as peer-to-peer, non-transactional care—people supporting one another because we share a community and a stake in each other’s well-being, not because of eligibility requirements, means testing, or power imbalances. This work is part of a broader political project: meeting material needs while strengthening relationships, shared capacity, and collective power over the long term.

The committee’s work is guided by the belief that mutual aid is not a one-time project or service, but an ongoing practice. We aim to build durable, community-rooted systems of care that can grow and adapt over time, including efforts like food security work, disaster preparedness, skill-sharing, and tool sharing, often in collaboration with other community organizations. By moving at a sustainable pace and sharing responsibility broadly, we work to support one another without relying on a small number of people or reproducing burnout.

How To Get Involved with MAC

There are many ways to participate in mutual aid work, depending on your capacity and interests. This can include volunteering time, sharing skills or tools, helping with occasional builds or events, or connecting people and resources within your networks. Participation does not require a large or ongoing commitment—mutual aid works best when many people do what they can, when they can.

The Mutual Aid Committee meets monthly and welcomes new participants. If you’re interested in supporting this work or learning more, we invite you to join a meeting, sign up to volunteer, or reach out with questions. Mutual aid is collective work, and it grows stronger through shared responsibility and care. To find out when and where the next MAC meeting is, check out our calendar of events here.
