Data Center Moratorium Public Hearing in Greensboro

At the August 3rd meeting, Greensboro City Council unanimously passed a motion to begin the process toward a data center moratorium. This vote comes after weeks of pressure from the local community after a previous motion for a moratorium process failed 5-4 at the July 21st City Council meeting. 

As one City Councilmember stated at the meeting, this new vote was the direct result of pressure from the community. “Don’t think that your voice is never heard,” Councilmember Cecile Crawford of District 2 said. “We listen…what we are saying from this dais came directly from your emails, from your phone calls, from your text messages, from your calls, from your DMs. We were getting it from everywhere. And we appreciate it. I appreciate it. Keep us accountable…Your involvement and engagement help make this happen tonight.”

The fight is not over. The vote for the actual moratorium will take place after a public hearing on the issue.
